REDHOOK H.S. CONCERT BAND
The Red Hook High School Band is an 85-piece, non-select concert band, including students from grades 9-12. The band rehearses daily for a 38-minute class period, and students receive weekly group lessons. Very few of our students take private lessons, yet over 50% of the band members participate in NYSSMA solo festival. The band attends NYSSMA Majors annually, competing at level 6. We have a large number of students selected annually for Area All-State, and consistently send students to NYSBDA State Honor Band and NYSSMA Conference All-State.
In addition to band and chorus, our district offers an International Baccalaureate (IB) music course, as well as the entire IB diploma. Our band program strongly emphasizes individualized instruction and building solo performance skills. Our district has no auditorium, so we usually perform our concerts in the school gym, but we recently experienced performing in one of the world's great concert halls; we performed last year's spring concert in the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College, designed by the famous Frank Gehry.
