Steve Frank teaches in the West Genesee Central School District, where he is responsible for the band program at Stonehedge and East Hill elementary schools, as well as directing the West Genesee High School Jazz Band. He is an adjunct faculty member at Onondaga Community College, where he directs the college jazz band. In 2003, Frank was selected to be the Director of Education for the M&T Syracuse Jazz fest at OCC.
He has studied music at the doctoral level at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, N.Y., and holds a M.M. in music performance from Youngstown State University, Youngstown, Ohio, and a B.M. in music education from the Crane School of Music, Potsdam, NY.
In 2002, Mr. Frank was honored to be named an “Outstanding Music Educator” in the field of Instrumental Music–Band by the musicians of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. Frank has also received the Onondaga Community College Faculty Appreciation Award in 2001, given to recognize “outstanding and dedicated service to the college.”
In addition to his public school and college teaching duties, Frank maintains an extensive private studio, and is active as a guest conductor, clinician, and professional trombonist. A published composer and arranger, his instrumental music supplement series, The Good Book, is currently being used by music teachers across the country. His composition Variations on Barnacle Bill, the Sailor has been performed around the world, and was recently recorded by Charlie Vernon, bass trombonist with the Chicago Symphony.
