Fairport H.S. Wind Ensemble

The Fairport High School Concert Band is the premier wind group in the Fairport School District. It has a tradition of pride and performing excellence that dates back to the 1960's, and has been guided by the baton of legendary music educators like Waldo Woodworth, Munro Sherrill, and Larry Poole. The band has received top ratings at NYSSMA Major Organization festivals each year of its existence, as well as in festivals throughout the Northeast, and has been invited to perform at several music educator conferences in the last two decades. Many members of the band also participate in the Fairport HS Orchestra, under the direction of Ken Brown, and the Fairport HS Jazz Ensembles, which are directed by Bill Tiberio. Each year, the band has representatives in the NYSSMA All-Conference performing groups, and this year, two members have been selected to the MENC All-Eastern Honor Band. Also this year, 10 members of the band have been selected for the NYSBDA HS Honor Band for this symposium.

Bill Tiberio is in his 19th year as a music educator, and has been teaching at Fairport HS for 15 years. In addition to conducting the FHS Concert Band, Bill directs the two high school jazz bands, jazz combos, pit orchestra, woodwind chamber ensembles, and teaches woodwind lessons from grades 6 through 12. He is the former president of the New York State Chapter of IAJE, and is on the summer jazz faculty for the Eastman School of Music CED program and the Hochstein School of Music. He is a frequent guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator for both jazz and concert honor groups and festivals throughout NY. Bill is active in the Rochester music scene as a jazz saxophonist and woodwind player. He has been honored at Fairport High School with an award given annually by his peers to an outstanding educator, has received the U of R Excellence in Secondary Teaching Award, and has been selected as a high school graduation speaker. One of his proudest school achievements is having the 2000 Fairport HS Yearbook dedicated to him.

Bill lives in Fairport with his wife Deb, and three children, who attend Fairport elementary and middle schools.
