Jack Delaney is director of bands at the Meadows School of the Arts of Southern Methodist University where he conducts the Meadows Wind Ensemble and teaches courses in conducting and wind literature.
Under his guidance, the Meadows Wind Ensemble has established itself as one of the leading ensembles of its kind, as evidenced by performances at significant regional, national, and international music festivals and conferences throughout the United States and Europe. In addition, performances by the Meadows Wind Ensemble have been broadcast by the BBC in London and numerous national radio stations around the world. The Wind Ensemble records on Gasparo Records.
Jack Delaney has conducted professional and student ensembles throughout Europe, South America, and the United States, including a recent engagement with the New World Symphony Orchestra, and has conducted performaces in Boston's Symphony Hall, New York's Town Hall, and Dallas's Meyerson Symphony Center.
Delaney has also commissioned some twenty-six major works by leading composers, a partial listing of which includes three works by Warren Benson, Stephen Jones, Kevin Hanlon, and John Gibson, two works by Timothy Broege, David Sargent, and Vicente Moncho, and single works by Augusta Read Thomas, Akira Miyoshi, Eric Stokes, Stephen Paulus, and Charles Rochester Young. In addition, Delaney has collaborated with a number of choreographers to create original works for dancers, wind ensemble, and chamber orchestra. These commissions include works to accompany the music of Joseph Schwantner, Carlos Surinach, Stephen Montague, Igor Stravinsky, and Norman Dello Joio.
The recipient of numerous awards and distinctions, Jack Delaney was recently named Algur H. Meadows Distinguished Teaching Professorship at the Meadows School of the Arts of Southern Methodist University, received the Achievement in Music Award from the Ohio University School of Music Alumni Association, and was honored by the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music at the First Annual Alumni Concert by the Cincinnati Wind Symphony.
Jack Delaney holds both a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Arts degree from Ohio University and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
